Aspect
Pattern Astrology
By
by Bruno, Louise and Michael
A. Huber
Have
you ever had the experience of looking at a birth chart with a sinking
feeling and the ever-present question, 'Where on earth do I begin?'.
Sound familiar? Then you need this book, for once you've read it,
never again will you feel over-whelmed by the detail which can crowd
in upon us at the first sight of a horoscope.
In
'Aspect Pattern Astrology', the Hubers take us on an in-depth and
deeply profound journey into the part of the natal chart which reveals
our most hidden inner drives and motivations, often hidden even
from ourselves. Reading this book is not only an education in the
interpretation of aspect structures, but also a revelation in terms
of what truly makes us, and those around us, tick. Incorporating
the consideration of geometric shaping, colour balance and direction,
as you journey through this book you cannot but allow your own intuition
to become awakened to the profound beauty that exists within the
aspect structure of our natal charts.
This
is most definitely not a 'read it once and leave it back on the
shelf' book. I keep mine to hand at all times, often picking it
up to read about a particular shape I've found in a chart, and each
time I do so I come away with my knowledge of Huber astrology, and
of the individual in question, further enriched. This book speaks
on so many levels, that repeat readings of it will always reveal
something new. It is a text book, yes, but also a primer on human
nature and the drives and energies that exist within us all. It
teaches theory and method, but also speaks to the heart of the human
condition, pointing us towards the goal of astrological psychology:
the awakening and liberation that arise out of insight into ourselves
and each other. I would defy anyone with an interest in astrology
to not look at horoscopes in a different light after reading this
book!

PSYCHOSYNTHESIS
The Elements and Beyond
By Will Parfitt
This
book gives a fully comprehensive view and understanding of Psychosynthesis.
I am always being asked, "What is it "? Briefly put, it
is Roberto Assagioli's method for discovering and developing self-realization.
This statement, however, does it little justice but Will Parfitt
definitely provides a clear and detailed coverage of the subject.
The
book as been divided into two parts, the first being, The Elements
of Psychosynthesis and the second, Beyond the Elements. In the first
part, he starts with a thorough explanation of this subject, its
background, benefits and value, which gives a real incentive to
read on.
The 'egg diagram', which is associated with Psychosynthesis, is
explained fully as it is used as a map or guide in exploring the
whole psyche. The following chapters explore the many aspects of
our being, from the personal to higher transpersonal self, with
the core issue of identifying with our true nature, our sense of
"I".
The
integration and harmonisation of our various parts, (sub-personalities)
is a key issue of Psychosynthesis. To quote from the book: "For
true synthesis the individuality of each part must be respected.
No bit of us is better or worse than another bit. On the contrary,
each part has to be whole before it can truly be synthesized and
integrated".
The
second part introduces the Soul of Psychosynthesis; here I received
a feeling of Roberto Assagioli's essence. Will writes of the influences,
subjects and knowledge, which shaped Assagioli's thoughts and mind.
His scientific background with the input of Freud, Jung, Maslow
and Rogers combined with his interest in all religions, Theosophy
and Kabbalah that all contributed to his own research method of
self-actualisation. Will, gives a brief explanation of all of these
as well as many more theories and beliefs that Assagioli studied
and explored, which all helped to give roots to Psychosynthesis.
There
is much in this book to explore and digest and as I read though
all these extensive chapters glimpses of Huber knowledge kept coming
through. In astrological terms what Will has successfully done is
gathered all the Mercury information then put it into structured
form, giving a clear perspective of the whole, (Jupiter).
At
the beginning of each chapter is a quote from Roberto Assagioli,
which Will goes on to define together with an exercise at the end
that can give personal meaning and experience to this workable therapy.
This
is a book well worth having, especially if you are interested in
working towards self-development and actualisation. Psychosynthesis
is the fruit of Roberto Assagioli's labour and life. I am sure he
would be pleased by the way Will has researched his background and
explained his work and methods, which is the essence of this book.
This is enhanced by Will's further knowledge and experience that
clearly comes through.
